    The Chocolate House

    The Chocolate House resides in what was for 400 years the hall of The George, a coaching inn built in 1323. The comfort of an open log fire has been replaced by shelves of comfort foods – chocolate, fudge, Italian pastries and Turkish confectionery. There’s a warm, friendly coffee shop serving hot chocolate, affogato, and other specialty coffees, not to mention 30 flavours of Marshfield’s popular organic ice cream. The shop has a rustic, eclectic ambience with its collection of gifts made by local producers, vintage West Country pottery, and art and treasure. All visitors are sweet and are welcome in the Chocolate House. Free ice cream for dogs and babies.

    This long-established, family run business is situated at the centre of the High Street. Tessa’s ethos is to offer fresh, healthy local produce. There are gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan dishes served with a wide variety of seasonal salads. Enjoy organic, Fair Trade coffee in the 16th Century tearoom or in the secluded courtyard garden. Light lunches range from delicious vegan burgers to traditional meat pies, or feast on homemade cakes and seriously good cream teas. There’s something for the whole family. And there’s no need to leave your dog at home, they are most welcome! If you’re pedalling here, there’s plenty of room for your bicycles in the courtyard.

To complement your meal, there’s an extensive gin and tonic and cocktail menu too. Dine outside in the beautiful garden in the warmer months. Winner of the Somerset Life Customer Service award, there’s always a warm welcome here from Claire and her team.

    Named after the famous medieval manuscript ‘The Luttrell Psalter’, this award-winning à la carte restaurant combines the historic character of the Luttrell’s ancient architecture with the very best of today’s British hospitality and cuisine. The Head and team create a menu that excites customers all year round. Awarded with two AA rosettes, the culinary ethos is to make the best use of 100% traceable local ingredients with minimal food miles. The result is inspiring menus with an emphasis on beautifully cooked, seasonal produce. Breakfast is served from 7.30am to 10.30am, dinner from 6pm to 8.30pm. Open to non-residents. Please book ahead and call for opening times in 2021.

    Enjoy traditional home-baked cream teas or the three-tiered Victorian afternoon tea in peaceful surroundings, either in the tearoom – once an old school room – or the lovely gardens. Owners Jeff and Sarah serve six varieties of scones including their very popular ginger recipe, served with cream and honey, and blue cheese scones served with cream cheese and cider apple chutney. All the delicious cakes are homemade, and sandwiches are served on thick cut crusty bread. Light lunches are available all day and include pasties, pies, sandwiches etc. Savour the selection of speciality teas and coffees. Find Locks behind Jacobs clothes shop, or enter from the National Trust Car Park.

    This cosy Italian/Mediterranean restaurant located in a 16th Century cottage has 12 covers, making it the perfect venue for a romantic dinner by candlelight. Italian cuisine is served with a twist, using best of Italian and British ingredients. You’ll find locally farmed Exmoor meats, the best South West fresh fish, and vegetarian and vegan dishes on the great value set menu. The food is freshly cooked to order, and all desserts are homemade. There’s an extensive wine and liquor list to accompany the delicious menu. Savour the food and the friendly and relaxed atmosphere with personal service. The restaurant is open Monday-Saturdays evenings only. Booking is essential.

    Located within the Yarn Market Hotel, Gables Restaurant is open to non-residents. Here the chef provides locally sourced dishes to cater for all tastes and dietary requirements. The Light Menu is served all day, with hot lunch specials served between 12pm to 2.30pm. The restaurant opens for dinner service from 5.30pm. Accompany your meal with a selection of popular wines, local beers and ciders. The team can happily cater for group meals from 10 to 60 people.     Open throughout the year, this cafe offers everything from a relaxing coffee with a homemade cake to a tasty lunchtime treat. Situated on Dunster Steep near the Exmoor National Park Visitor Centre, it is open every day 8.30am – 6pm (opening hours may vary due to season).

    There’s a warm welcome waiting for you at Cobblestones Restaurant. We serve delicious breakfasts and lunches in the fully licensed restaurant. For lunch, choose from a full traditional menu, children’s menu, and Sunday roast. Treat yourself to very large cream teas, as well as sweet or savoury high teas. In the summer sit outdoors in the beautiful large garden with stunning views of Dunster Castle. And if you are visiting the Castle, simply walk straight into the garden from the Castle’s car park. Dogs are welcome at the front of house and in the garden. This is one of the few restaurants in the village with wheelchair access.
